One of the most enjoyable parts of having a little girl is getting to put them in dresses and put ribbons and bows in their hair. This wasn’t something I had a lot of practice with when our baby girl came along. When I became a mom to my husbands daughter she was already 7 and very opinionated when it came to her clothes and hair, so I very rarely got to dress her up or get creative with hairstyles for her.
Now our little girl is about to turn two next month and her hair is finally getting long enough that I can start experimenting with cute and creative little girl hairstyles!
We decided that we didn’t want to cut bangs for her. Unfortunately that means her hair is often in her eyes while it’s growing out. She won’t keep headbands in her hair, and quite often if I try to simply clip the front back in a bow, she pulls it out. So I stocked up on these little guys…
These are perfect for her super fine hair and can be used in just about any little girl hairstyle. There are a couple more tools you need to help accomplish many of the styles I’m about to share: a small comb (for parting sections), a nylon or boar hair bristled brush (great for making hair smooth and taming flyaways), a spray bottle with water (I add a small amount of leave in conditioner) or detangler. Hairspray can also help but I try to use it sparingly, and I always buy an alcohol free formula.
If you want some added flair, get some pretty, bow adorned clips! I find adding a bow on top of an elastic helps ensure the bow is trickier for her to pull out – sometimes. Another extra you can get to help make certain styles easier to execute is one of these miraculous tools….
The tiny one is perfect for fine hair like my daughters.
Now you’re ready to roll! Here are a few of my favorite little girl hairstyles for you to try out with your little beauty! Some of these I’ve tried, and some are on my list, waiting for her to be less wiggly or for her hair to grow longer. She is still super wiggly and doesn’t always cooperate for styling, so a few I haven’t dared to attempt yet.
