In my house, we LOVE our pets! We have always had at least one dog in our family, even when I was a little girl. We are very passionate about animals and advocating for no-kill shelters, rescue organizations, and animal welfare. When I was introduced to Kat Socks and her book, “Pickles the Dog, Adopted“, I was more than happy to review a copy and help bring awareness to these causes.

About the Author
The first detail I want to share with you is that a portion of the profits from each book sold is given to a worthy cause.
Kat Socks is very passionate about animals and believes every animal deserves a loving home. She enjoys spending time with her family and volunteering as a pet therapy handler. Kat loves to give back to her community in many ways, but her favorite way is by donating a small portion of the sales from her book to animal shelters.

About the Book
“Pickles the Dog, Adopted” has won several national awards, including being a 2019 Distinguished Favorite in the Independent Press Awards and a finalist in the Indie Book Awards, as well as winning two awards for cover design. The book is available in nearly 40 stores.
The book is a quick and simple read, well suited to animal lovers of all ages. Both my toddler and my six year old enjoyed the story and the illustrations. The main character is based on a real dog with the same name. Kat shares, “She was a dog rescued during a flood. She had been adopted and returned to a shelter several times and things were not looking so well for her. A family member decided to adopt Pickles and helped her learn and adjust to a new home. I am so grateful she did because Pickles is such a sweet girl who is happy to meet everyone!”
This is such an encouraging story and knowing that it is based on real events makes the account all the more endearing. The book has immense value in teaching children about training their beloved pets in the correct behaviors. In the story, Pickles gets into a bit of mischief as she acclimates to her new home. But Kat, her owner, decides that instead of getting frustrated with her new companion, she will use a toy to encourage Pickles to learn about life on the family farm. Her technique works wonderfully, and both Kat and Pickles are happy!

Our Rating for Pickles the Dog, Adopted
We all enjoyed this book, myself included. It made my children, who are animal lovers as well, happy to know there are people like Kat in the world that are doing things to help helpless animals find forever homes. We can’t wait to read more Pickles the Dog books in the future. We highly recommend adding this title to your child’s library, especially if they are also an animal lover!
